The population of our council works mainly in agricultural and cattle-breedering activities, most of them aimed to their own consumption.
More than 50 % of the land is forest and the rest of it is divided into numerous plots, some for cultivation and some for pasture, most of which are small-sized.

 There are forest exploitations, three quite important wood manufacturing companies, and one electric company for the installation of low, medium and high tension lines.

The rest of our working population has different jobs, either in our council or moving to Betanzos or A Coruña, with which we have had tight socio-economic bonds for some years. The building sector has become more and more relevant in the past few years and we expect it to keep growing.
